A tough racehorse who never failed to do his best, Buddy re-injured his hind suspensory and now resides in a Lauriston Paddock. A winner of $300,683 after 39 starts 17 wins and 12 placings ,his best win was the Breeders Crown Graduate Pacers Group 2 in August 2019 when driven by Gavin Lang. Poster Boy ( Somebeachsomewhere - Aston Villa USA ) . After 11 months away Chevy returned to the track in dominant fashion. 2 starts for 2 wins , a last half in 54 and did it effortlessly. The five year old entire's record speaks for itself; 5 Group1 wins, $796,470, 29-21-5-2. 1.49.9 . Beautiful Woman 1.56.4 ( Art Major-Kabbalah Karen B ) has impressed winning 2 from 3 starts . The younger sibling of Our Little General and Kasbah Kid will improve further with racing and is held in high esteem by her trainers. She was retained by Lauriston after failing to meet her reserve when offered at the APG Yearling Sale. A horse who was sold at the Melbourne APG Sale for $100,000 has easily won 5 of his six starts this season : Abouttime ( Art Major -Limerick Star NZ ) looks set to be a major player in the months to come. His May 16 win at Tabcorp Park Melton in 1.52.9 where he won untouched by 21 metres is an indication of his ability. Lauriston currently has 12 horses in work; 4 trained by Isobel Walsh at Shepparton, 2 with Craig Cross at Cobbity NSW and 6 with Emma Stewart at Ballarat. Hurricane Harley and three 2 year olds; Ladies In Red, Beach Music and Decorated Soldier returned to the Stewart barn this weekend to prepare for the Victorian Racing season which has been extended to 31 December 2020. We applaud this initiative by HRV and look forward to attending race meetings to watch the pink and black compete once Covid 19 restrictions have been lifted. Two Lauriston horses trialled at Ballarat on Tuesday April 14.
Beautiful Woman ( Art Major - Kabbalah Karen B ) a 3 year old filly trialled for the second time and although inexperienced, won over 2200m , last half 57.6 last quarter 28.5. She is a half sister to Our Little General and a full to Kasbah Kid. She is a big filly , given time to mature and has inherited the family's ability. Poster Boy appeared at the trials for the third time and continues to impress. He led over the 2200m and flew home in 53.8 and a 26 last quarter. We look forward to seeing him back at the races, although Covid19 has restricted his opportunities. Reluctantly ,we are forced to announce the retirement of the crowd favourite ( and ours ) Pistol Abbey.
Pistol Abbey was the most awarded mare in the 2019 season. She was named Victorian Aged mare of the Year, Australian Aged mare of the Year , and the NSW Breeders 4 Year old Mare of the Year. Abbey received a 100% clearance from the Vets to return to racing and we began to look for races for her. She has had 32 starts for 14 wins and 10 placings , $253,060 and is the winner of 2 Group 1 races including The Queen Of The Pacific. Finished at 5 ; its unreal. Harness Racing Victoria Policies and Programming have been her demise. With her NR111 there are no mares races for her and she will NEVER race against her male counterparts. Ash Barty does not have to play Roger Federer to win a tennis match ! As breeders we are passionate about racing opportunities for our mares ; there are NONE ! We have lobbied long and hard to no avail . HRV programming needs a serious overhaul and they should follow the lead of HRNSW who provide 2 mares races per fortnight at Menangle and assist the Breeding Industry with Breeding incentives for Colonial Stallions. This year the Melbourne APG Sale average for fillies was down , is it any wonder when you consider the appalling disregard for the fairer sex by HRV ? SPEAK NO EVIL in 1.50.9 at Menangle on Saturday night !. Great drive by Todd McCarthy to dominate the race with Maggie.
No words can convey our gratitude to those people who have assisted us in getting Maggie back to the track after an 18 month injury enforced spell. Our team of helpers has been amazing. Thank you to Peter Clarke ( we followed his rehab program to the letter) , Dr Kath McIntosh and the Lauriston Team. The 'icing on the cake 'came from Craig, Luke, and Belinda at Cobbity Farm. It was as good as a Group 1 win and one we will remember always. Captain Braveheart became the first Australian winner for Captain Treacherous when the 2 year old saluted at Tabcorp Park Menangle on February 11 at his first race start. He posted a winning time of 1.53.3 , trained by N McCarthy and driven by Todd McCarthy. He was purchased at the Melbourne APG Sale for $36,000 for clients of the McCarthy stable. Congratulations to all concerned and thanks for your support.
Thats a perfect record for his dam Scottish Glamour ( Elsu -Scottish Flyer ) . She is the dam of 3 colts to race including The Tiger Army. Lauriston welcomes our newest purchase. Belora Bromac ( Betting Line - Tullulah Bromac ) . Bel was a $16,000 purchase ( LOT 277 ) at the Christchurch Yearling Sale. Her Artsplace dam has left 2 winners and the second dam, Tandias Courage was a good racemare in Australia and the USA.
The Melbourne APG Sales results for Lauriston are listed below. Overall, it was a disappointing sale for vendors . Lauriston yearlings were offered for genuine sale and all found new homes. Thank you to those who inspected our horses; and to the successful buyers ' good luck ' ,may you have many enjoyable moments at the track.
