He has started 5 times for 5 wins , a mile rate of 1.53.8 and earnings of $101,477. His performances to date could not have been more impressive and he will be one of the favourites for the APG 2 year old colts Final at Tabcorp Park Melton on May 2.
Two year old colt Follow The Stars ( Smryna Duruisseau ) dominated his APG semi final for 2 year old colts at Tabcorp Park Melton on April 25. He is already a Group 1 winner , scoring in the Young Guns in NZ earlier in the year for Mark Purdon.
He has started 5 times for 5 wins , a mile rate of 1.53.8 and earnings of $101,477. His performances to date could not have been more impressive and he will be one of the favourites for the APG 2 year old colts Final at Tabcorp Park Melton on May 2. Our three two year old fillies performed very well at Menangle on Sunday April 27. Artistic Angel ( Shezacullen ) was in the Consolation and despite meeting with interference finished the race off resolutely to finish third. She will be further improved by her trip away.
Two fillies contested the Final; the unbeaten Rosie OReilly ( Limerick Star ) and Queen Of Pop ( Top Tempo ) . Rosie OReilly led from barrier 5 with the favourite Supersonic Miss on her back. Queen of Pop settled one out one back from 4 but was pushed back 2 places in the running line as Our Awesome Girl and Bamako Mali circled the field. Chris Alford pulled out 3 wide on Queen Of Pop at the 600 and she was pushed 4 wide on the turn , yet she continued to come at the leaders ,winning by a half neck in 1.57.4. It was a performance full of merit. Rosie OReilly raced roughly for a stride or two coming into the straight and appeared to slightly choke down but finished off the race in 5th placing. Her performance during the Series has been impressive and she appears to have a bright future. All three will now have a short let up to recover from their first trip away from home. Top Tempo was a successful racemare for Mark Purdon winning $225,513 and a mile rate of 1.56.5. She is well on the way to eclipsing her track record in the breeding barn. She is the dam of only three foals of racing age. Two of those are fillies and through their deeds Top Tempo has established a unique record. Her first foal Musical Delight won the APG fillies Final in 2012 . Although battling injury Musical Delight went on to win the Raith Memorial Group 3 as a 3 year old in a time of 1.53.1. She has stake winnings of 246,900.
Top Tempo's second filly Queen Of Pop ( Art Major ) won the 2014 APG fillies Final. She has had 4 starts for 2 wins and 2 seconds and $160,347. 2 Group 1 winners from the first three foals is an enviable record for any mare. Top Tempo has a weanling full brother to Musical Delight and is in foal to Well Said. The three 2 year old fillies lined up at Menangle on Saturday April 19 for the $30,000 Group 3 APG Semi Finals.
Rosie ORielly was first up and led easily from Barrier 4. She held the lead and although Bamako Mali ( previously unbeaten in 5 starts ) seriously challenged her coming into the straight Rosie raced away to win by 14 metres in 1.56.5. last quarters 28.5 and 27.6. Queen Of Pop and Artistic Angel contested the second heat. Artistic Angel worked hard early to find the lead , handed up to Soho Tokyo but the effort took its toll and she finished 6th. She will be a starter in next weeks $50,000 consolation. Queen of Pop settled in the running line , pulled out three wide at the 600 and led up the 3 wide line. She gave the favourite Supasonic Miss the trail into the race , before being beaten into second place by that filly. This was a sound performance and both Rosie OReilly and Queen Of Pop head into the Group 1 Final next Sunday at Menangle. The performance of the 3 fillies is a credit to their trainers ; Danny Thackeray and Gary Quinlan. The all important Barrier draw will be held on Tuesday. Both Rosie OReilly and Supasonic Miss remain unbeaten. Follow The Stars ( Art Major - Smyrna Duruisseau ) won his APG heat at Menangle on Saturday April 12. The 2 year old colt has now won four from four . He won by 5.9 metres in a mile rate of 1.59.8 and finished off in a 26 last quarter. His best time is 1.53.8 for stakes of $86,477.
Mark Purdon will now head to Melbourne for the APG semis . In a great result for Lauriston breeding we now have 4 two year olds in the APG Semi Finals ; Follow The Stars , Artistic Angel , Queen Of Pop and Rosie OReilly. Three year old gelding Rocknroll Music recorded his second win from 4 starts at Bendigo on April 10. Beginning brilliantly from Gate 5 he led easily and although challenged in the middle stages , raced away when the plugs were pulled to win untouched by 11.3 metres. His time of 1.56.8 , last half 55.8 was very good considering the rain effected track.
Rocknroll Music is a half brother to Maffioso and he is bred on the famous Rocknroll Hanover / Artsplace cross ; out of Lindsey Leigh USA. His form suggests he has the makings of a nice horse. The Rocknroll Hanover / Artsplace cross has worked very successfully for Lauriston as Yankee Rockstar $ 61,763 1.55.3 10 starts for 7 wins and 2 placings is also bred on that cross. ( Aston Villa USA) . Our orphan foal " Bolt" is also bred on the same RNRH / Artsplace cross ; he is out of National Gallery so he has a lot to live up to ! Lauriston Girls made an impact on Friday April 4 at Melton. Courageousnquick ( Courage Under Fire - Rigaleto Franco ) started the ball rolling when she won the Sky Racing Pace at her first attempt at M0 class. Her time was a slick 1.57. Her record is now 29 starts ; 13 wins and 6 placings $ 148,687. She has been a great money spinner for her owners who purchased her at the APG Yearling Sales for $24,000.
Lauriston was represented by 3 two year old fillies in the APG Heats. Artistic Angel ( Art Major - Shezacullen ) performed very well at her first race start for Danny Thackeray finishing third in her heat. Next up were Rosie OReilly ( Art Major - Limerick Star ) and Queen Of Pop ( Art Major - Top Tempo ) . Rosie OReilly began brilliantly from Barrier 2 and led all the way to record an easy win by 23 metres over Queen Of Pop who was 3 back the rail and didn't get a clear run until late. This was Rosie's first start and she was most impressive. She is trained at the farm by Danny Thackeray whilst Queen Of Pop is already a winner trained by Gary Quinlan. Rosie OReilly was offered for sale as a yearling at the APG Sales but came home when the bidding stopped at $ 18,000. She is the first foal of a race winning half sister to National Gallery and traces to the great mare Armalight. Best of luck to the 3 girls as they head up the highway to Menangle for the semi finals on April 19. |
