Pistol Abbey was the most awarded mare in the 2019 season. She was named Victorian Aged mare of the Year, Australian Aged mare of the Year , and the NSW Breeders 4 Year old Mare of the Year.
Abbey received a 100% clearance from the Vets to return to racing and we began to look for races for her. She has had 32 starts for 14 wins and 10 placings , $253,060 and is the winner of 2 Group 1 races including The Queen Of The Pacific. Finished at 5 ; its unreal.
Harness Racing Victoria Policies and Programming have been her demise. With her NR111 there are no mares races for her and she will NEVER race against her male counterparts. Ash Barty does not have to play Roger Federer to win a tennis match !
As breeders we are passionate about racing opportunities for our mares ; there are NONE ! We have lobbied long and hard to no avail . HRV programming needs a serious overhaul and they should follow the lead of HRNSW who provide 2 mares races per fortnight at Menangle and assist the Breeding Industry with Breeding incentives for Colonial Stallions.
This year the Melbourne APG Sale average for fillies was down , is it any wonder when you consider the appalling disregard for the fairer sex by HRV ?
