Lauriston bred and owned 2 year old fillies Artistic Angel ( Shezacullen ) and Yankee Showgirl ( Aston Villa ) have qualified for the Vicbred $100,000 Group 1 Final at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday July 5.
The all important Barrier Draw will be conducted at 10.30 AM on Tuesday July 1.
Yankee Showgirl went forward 3 wide from Barrier 6 to the death seat, obtained cover, was held up and finished strongly to claim second place in 1.59.8 over the 2240 metres. This was only her second start and she is a filly on the improve.
In Heat 2 , Artistic Angel began from Barrier 13 and continued to press forward from barrier release to find the death seat in a race run in extremely strong winds. She ran her usual honest race and held on strongly for fourth. It was a superb effort from both fillies and a change of luck in the barrier draw will enhance their chances in the final.
Lauriston bred Courageousnquick ( Rigaleto Franco ) won a semi-final of the 4 year old mares and Countdown ( Top Tempo ) has also qualified for the colts/geldings 3 year old final.
Both 2 year old fillies did not draw well for the Final. It was a huge run from Yankee Showgirl to finish third from Barrier 10 ( she is a stunning filly and won best presented ) whilst Artistic Angel drew Barrier 6 , worked hard early and was unplaced. The Angel is now spelling and The Showgirl will be aimed at the Breeders Crown. Courageousnquick also ran third in her final.
